Be Still My Heart

I'm in love.
The search is over...I've finally found it.
The barn of my dreams, OK....barn(s).

This is it, they don't have barns like this where I live, so I guess I have to move.
To Michigan.
Where it seems there is a plethora of beee-uuuu-tiful barns.
The Husband and I took a short trip to see my fabulous cousins - honestly...they're fabulous. R.W. and M.E...their initials stand for Really Wonderful and Marvelous Entertainer!
We had five days and four nights of perfect sights, wonderful company, lots of laughs...serious R & R all the way around.
I know I know...we were there in September so the weather was perfect for this sissy girl. I know the summers are hot and muggy and the winters are bitter cold...so cold my favorite gal at the post office who used to live there says your nose hairs freeze...ow!
But I love barns...serious barn love is a problem.
I think I could handle the weather...
if I lived in a really cool old barn.

Evil Ivy.... Over!

Last week The Husband took a week of vacation. We worked on stuff at the farm, went to the cabin for a couple of days and put the exterior trim on the windows and doors..yeee hawww! I love it, I love progress...particularly when it's something that we've done together.
This past Saturday I was working on a little project in the party barn, he was doing a bit of this and that. He came out to the barn and said "Anything you want me to do?"...I said "that ivy over by the milking parlor is getting out of control, it would be great if you could trim in back a bit...in fact, I think that eventually we should just get rid of it, it's climbing the wall and it's going to ruin that nice paint job I did on the barn a couple of years ago". Off he went, I thought he would trim it back a bit, get distracted by cows or the dog..maybe the phone. I heard the tractor right after he went over to trim the ivy, I thought to myself....'hmmm...he didn't trim for very long at all...the rascal'. A little while later I walked to the house, lo and behold...the ivy was gone - yanked out with the bucket of the tractor.

Note: when one asks a farmer to do a bit of gardening don't expect them to use a hedge trimmer, a pruner or a lopper...expect them to use a tractor.

Dirty rotten ivy damage to my purty paint job. Guess what I did today...yup...sanded and primed, hopefully tomorrow I can slap on the top coat and call it good, then it's off to the garden center for some plants....and I won't be coming home with any stinking ivy!

* I was the dummy that planted it in the first place, hey...I was young and didn't know any better.

D is for Dome

The dome of the silo, this view taken through
the magnolia blossoms.
The Husband used to talk about demolishing the silo, these days
he says he wouldn't knock it down unless we win the lottery. That
would be really amazing since we never buy tickets.
I say leave it, I love the look of a silo on a farm. My lottery dream
is to knock down all of the other barns that have been added on to
the original old hip-roof barn. Then restore it as close as possible
to the original structure, and trick it out so we could live in it.
I've always wanted to live in a big old barn.
Hey, just dreamin' here.
Oh...and the silo? Leave it standing all on it's own. With
a beautiful lawn surrounding it...and maybe a zip-line tower
that you could ride down to a swimming pond.
Wahooooooo!!!
