Surfing for Surfaces
So...I've finally tweaked the kitchen cabinet design for the last time - they're ordered! Yikes.
New dishwasher and fridge - chosen and ordered.
Next up?
Floors and counters...
Plain Jane, practical and economical farm girl that I am ...I'm seriously leaning toward Formica.
I don't drive a foreign car, don't have any fancy high heels like Manolo's or Jimmy Choos...never has a fancy handbag caught my fancy.
Since I've never done this before I'm trying to challenge my own thought process. Will I be sorry I didn't take the big leap and go for the granite?
I'd love some advice, Formica? Granite? Tile? Composite?
Next week...flooring...oh, I'm going to miss my curling 70's linoleum...
Yaaa..right.

I don't think you'll be sorry you don't go for granite (unless you do shiny), but do consider honed- there really are some beautiful granites out there and it's just that granite has gotten such a bad rap (overused, too shiny) in the last several years.... or better yet have you thought about soapstone? I think it's perfect (and period) for a farmhouse. We have it on our counters and I love it! One of the things I love is that you can put hot pans directly on it. If you have any questions about it, just email me.
Or what about wood counters?
I had tile in our last house, and while I loved the look, hated cleaning the grout. Composites (and all things 'green')are outrageously expensive.
Since you said you've never done this before I would definitely go look at all of them before you rule anything in/out. And DON'T let any salesperson talk you out of something you are interested in. It's your kitchen!!
Wow! I wish I could just redo my kitchen sometimes.
I have had Formica for the last 27 years, and if I were re-doing my kitchen, I'd prefer to have it again, just in a different color.
But around here, if you don't do granite or concrete, you lessen your resale value.
