K is for Keepsake

This horse is part of a lamp that belonged to my paternal grandparents. It sat on a table in their living room.
As a kid I was horse-crazy, so I thought it was really cool that my grandparents had this as part of their decor. A couple of years ago my mom was spring cleaning her house and she asked my sister and I if either of us wanted it, we both declined,... said something about already having "to much stuff". A while later I reconsidered and asked her if I could still have it, I wanted to put it out in the party barn. Every time I look at it I'm reminded of coffee time at my grandparents after church on Sundays.
My grandparents have been gone for several years, I wish I knew the story behind this lamp.

Sometimes we don't spend enough time asking for the stories that our loved ones have to share with us, to me they're just as important as the mementos and keepsakes. Tonight we got home from spending a couple of nights at our off-grid cabin. It was a little get-away...something we don't usually do for Mothers Day. We had a great time with mom, my sister-in-law, my sister and her hubby. We had a Mother's Day picnic style lunch, okay...I got a little carried away and it turned into a bit of a buffet. I encouraged everyone to wear their cozy clothes. We relaxed, enjoyed the view...and played a lot of "remember when". Hopefully we'll do this more often so that we can remember those stories, about goofy things like lamps...and so many other fun keepsakes that hold fond memories for so many of us.

That is such a great way to spend Mother's Day. Ours was very simple too... we had a rained out bar-b-q! It was great fun!

I wish you knew the story behind the horse too... but at least you HAVE the horse - and YOUR memories.

I have all my wonderful family stories, but none of the keepsakes that go with. They really need to be a matched set, don't they?

I understand you wanting to know more of the story behind the lamp. But keep in mind you already have a story. Yours. Knowing more might take away from what this lamp already means to you. Suppose you found out it was on they got it on clearance at Pic n Save? How exciting is that?
