Q is for Queen

Tulip, Queen of Night.
I went through a little phase where I was just plain crazy about black plants...or almost black plants. These tulips are a really dark purple and I'm still just as crazy about them as I was all those years ago when I first discovered them. There aren't too many of them left in my garden, but the ones that have survived are still incredibly lovely. I think I need to buy some more of these little dears this fall so I can have a few more to gaze at.

These are lovely tulips. They would be particularly attractive with white or sprinkled throughout almost any other color.

These three certainly are tulip royalty! WE had a neighbor down the street when I was a kid who had a border of these tulips all around her yard like a low fence. It was stunning. While they were in bloom she lived outside with a broom in her hands chasing children away. I am proud to say I never picked one, and wouldn't let my friends pick them if they were with me.

These are gorgeous. I love shooting tulips. And they are my wife's favorite flower. She gets tulips instead of roses on Valentine's Day!
